Pregnancy can be stressful, and the responsibility extends not only to your health but also to the well-being of another person within you. Throughout pregnancy, various symptoms may arise, some more common, some less so, some routine, and others that might leave you wondering whether something is wrong. It is crucial to remember that in most cases, you will be told that such occurrences are normal during pregnancy and that everything is fine. However, it is equally important to heed your intuition and seek medical evaluation if any suspicions arise.

We have compiled a list of warning signs and symptoms that require clarification and immediate medical consultation:

  • Frequent vomiting (concern for dehydration).
  • Severe headaches with visual disturbances (symptoms of preeclampsia) and/or blurred vision or the appearance of black spots before the eyes.
  • Weight gain of more than 1 kilogram per week (may indicate fluid retention, one of the signs of preeclampsia).
  • High fever or fever after invasive procedures such as amniocentesis, accompanied by water leakage (a sign of possible infection).
  • Burning sensation during urination or reduced urine output (may indicate a urinary tract infection).
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
  • Rapid heartbeat without prior exertion.
  • Contractions before 37 weeks.
  • Decreased fetal movement or cessation of movements.

  • Leaking of non-clear fluid from the cervix (concern for amniotic fluid leakage).

  • In the case of meconium-stained amniotic fluid (fluid that is not clear and has a greenish-brown color), it is imperative to seek immediate attention in the labor and delivery room.
