This examination is performed between weeks 19-25 (and is recommended between weeks 21-24) of pregnancy.
At this stage of pregnancy, the organs are more clearly visible and better developed, making it possible to identify abnormalities that may not have been detected earlier. Various body systems, such as the brain, thorax, and kidneys, continue to develop throughout pregnancy, so it is important to reassess them.
During the examination, the shape of the skull and brain components, facial structure, chest, lungs, heart, abdomen, kidneys, bladder, umbilical cord, spinal column, diaphragm, limb movements, number of blood vessels in the umbilical cord, placental location, amniotic fluid volume, heartbeat, and fetal movements are all evaluated.
The examination is conducted using an abdominal ultrasound.
