The assessment includes estimating the fetal weight and determining the placental location
This examination is conducted between weeks 32-34 of pregnancy.
The assessment includes estimating the fetal weight and determining the placental location. During this examination, measurements of length, abdomen, and head circumference are repeated, and compatibility with the gestational age is assessed. Additionally, the amount of amniotic fluid and the position of the placenta are checked.
Evaluating fetal weight allows us to determine if the rate of fetal growth is normal, whether it is developing as expected, or if there are deviations from the normal percentiles. When the fetus is smaller than expected, it may be at risk, and delivering it earlier might be advisable. Conversely, if the fetus is larger, it may indicate gestational diabetes, which is important to identify and diagnose before childbirth, among other things, to decide on the safest delivery method for the fetus and mother.
