Many women experience nausea and vomiting during the first trimester of pregnancy (and sometimes throughout the entire pregnancy). The reason for this lies in hormonal changes, specifically changes in HCG and estrogen levels, which result in hormonal and metabolic changes. Complementary medicine is here to help.
It is recommended to eat small, frequent meals throughout the day.
Before getting out of bed, you can eat something small and dry, such as crackers or a bagel, or squeeze half a fresh lemon into a cup of hot water and sip it slowly.
Chewing sweetened ginger or boiled ginger root can also help alleviate nausea.
Finish eating about two hours before going to bed at night.
Low levels of vitamin B6 are often associated with nausea and vomiting in pregnant women. A supplement can be beneficial in easing these symptoms. A combination of vitamin C and vitamin K can also reduce the frequency of nausea. However, it is essential not to consume more than 75 mg of vitamin C and 5 mcg of vitamin K together (recommended dosage: C- 250 mg twice a day, K- 5 mcg per day).
Generally, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any vitamins or supplements.
Lemon, ginger, and petitgrain essential oils are known to help reduce the sensation of nausea. It is recommended to diffuse 4-5 drops of these essential oils in a diffuser near your bedside or to apply them to a small cloth placed at the edge of your bed, near your nose.
In cases of severe nausea, it is advisable to consult with your attending physician for further guidance.
